How To Be A Strong Self-Advocate Part 2 (Mental Health)
Show Notes

In the previous episode we started  talking about healthcare advocacy. I want to recap how you should advocate for yourself and others when it pertains to your health. Self-Advocacy makes you feel more autonomous and in control of your health and well-being. You are increasing your awareness and developing a high self-esteem.

In this episode I want you to develop tools that promote autonomy in your health care and mental health. We explore your rights and informed decision making with consideration to your needs, values, beliefs, and preferences.

The number one skill is speaking up!
Just because someone is a healthcare provider does not mean that they don’t get things wrong. If you feel ignored, say so. It’s important to listen to your body and what it’s telling you.

There’s a definite stigma with receiving mental health services and seeking help that needs to end. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with seeking mental health services. Just because you are seeking services doesn’t mean you will be diagnosed, be prescribed medication or be categorized as mentally ill or unstable.
Everyone benefits from being mentally healthy.
